Week One is always the toughest week to handicap as there is no history to use for a guide. You have to really do your homework, know your newcomers, and be aware of coference weaknesses and strengths in order to get an information advantage.
Well, I think I got that for you. In my continuing collaboration with numbers guru Matt Ryan we have identified three upsets from which you can either a) amaze and delight your friends with your knowledge or b) profit handsomely.

Interesting that Florida Gator Tim Tebow exists as the favorite, despite only one repeat winner (Archie Griffin, Ohio State, 1973-74) in the history of the Award. For a group of investors who generally eschew risk, I find that quite interesting.
Be a contrarian; buy a basket of Daniel, Wells and maybe even Pat White and get a bigger payoff…
Heisman Odds as of August 21, 2008
Tim Tebow +250
Chase Daniel +500
Chris Wells +500
Knowshon Moreno +800
Graham Harrell +1000
LeSean McCoy +1000
Michael Crabtree +1000

I like to call this my college football portfolio….
I like to look at the season win futures and National Title odds in college football sort of like a stock market – all participants move the line and it settles for a while until pressure moves it again. I think I found four great values for you during this trying time in the stock market, no more risky than a brokerage stock…

1) Notre Dame Over 7 (-150)
I am trying to coach myself out of being so attached to the odds during these plays – it has often scared me off a play when I didn’t think I was getting the juice. Notre Dame was so bad last year (started lots of freshmen) and the football gods (whom we hear have a direct line to South Bend) blessed them with a weak schedule to recover.
It is very possible they will start 6-0 including a home victory over a retooling Michigan – if so, they have Navy and Syracuse in November to wrap it up. I am going to call this the layup of the year, so go max bet.
