How did everyone do with the Derby ? Sad when a horse goes down, especially after coming in 2nd behind Big Brown in the 134th running of the Kentucky Derby. In all fairness, Eight Belles went out on top. Ran the race of her life on the biggest stage of horse racing. Nobody ever wants to see a horse put down, but if it had to happen, at least it was after a great run. Larry Jones, the trainer of Eight Belles, was looking to win the Kentucky Oaks / Kentucky Derby double. Gabriel Saez won the Kentucky Oaks the day before aboard Proud Spell and was looking for the same result in the Derby aboard Eight Belles. The filly gave a brilliant performance which only was overshadowed by the tragic events that followed shortly there after.

To the night’s action in the NBA, brought to you by Sportsbook

Magic +6.5 Over (184.5) Under

Pistons -6.5

In Game 1 the Magic shot 2 of 15 from behind the arc. They hit 10 of 20 from the “free throw line”. Detroit held a 1 point lead at the half, than shut down the Magic in the 2nd half. Detroit outscored the Magic 48-30 in the 2nd half. Detroit is known for playing tough , physical basketball. That and 22,000 screaming fans should be enough to keep the Magic in check. Look for Detroit to come out and shut down the Orlando offense. Even if Howard doubles his point total from game 1, it still shouldn’t matter.

Spurs +2.5 Under (182.5) Under

Hornets -2.5

The Hornets come into Game 2 after handing the Spurs a 19 point loss in Game 1. Much like Detroit, the Hornets took over in the 2nd half. The Spurs took a 4 point lead into half. Than , like the Magic, could manage only 33 points in the 2nd half. Chris Paul is in the zone and playing at home. Look for the young and talented Hornets to send this series to Texas with the Spurs backed up against the wall.

I like the Pistons giving points and under 184.5 in Game 1 with the second leg taking the Hornets laying the points with the over 182.5
